You can't get better than a Kwick fit fitter.......er....??
Can someone explain how kwik fit still exist? I cannot find anyone who goes there, I cannot find anyone who'd trust them to tighten a wheel nut, yet they survive. I can only assume there are a lot of suckers out there who don't mind getting ripped off!

Last time I went to kwik fit was for four new tyres (I certainly wouldn't use them for anything else) and they managed to cross thread and strip 2 wheel nuts which I noticed when I checked the torque on them the next day and they just spun round and round.
I actually wouldn't have minded too much if they had said to me at the time "very sorry we have stripped the thread from a couple of your wheel nuts" but rather than owning up they just put the covers over them and let me drive off with two wheels only held on by 3 nuts

Cherry - They are salaried, not on commission so are you sure it didn't need it?
I have no axe to grind just wonder.
I had a problem with my exhaust once I was sure the rear box would need replacing, they said that it had poped out of the rubber restraining donut, put it back, didn't charge smiled and waved my on my way.
They could have done the exhaust I wasn't paying I just wanted it fixed.

I have used Kwik Fit numerous times. Twenty years ago I agree they were sharks who would rip you off. The fitters received a low basic wage and got commission on what they could sell....so they would quote you for a stainless steal exhaust system costing 200 quid when you could have had a mild steel system for 50 quid.
I have used them recently though for shock absorbers (front and rear) and the price was right. I paid 100 quid for a pair of Monroe gas filled rear shock absorbers fitted with a guarantee. If I bought them from Halfords they would be 90 quid and I would have to fit them myself. I've noticed that Kwik Fit generally use decent parts (except their own brand tyres) like Mintex brake pads and Mobil oil.
I don't think they are competitive on tyres. I go to a small family run tyre fitters who do a budget (but good quality) 185 R13 tyre for 28 quid. Kwik Fit is nowhere near that price. Avoid the Kwik Fit special offers like 4 tyres for 100 quid as they will fit very poor quality tyres that were made in Kwik Fits own tyre factory in Poland.

I've used Kwik-Fit many times and only ever had complaint of poor workamanship which they put right quickly and efficiently. They always call the customer over to show them any problem before starting the work and they du use good quality parts but as Seafarer says they are not competitive on tyres.
On a recent MOT one of my exhaust brackets was broken and a number plate bulb was out. Instead of failing the car they fitted a new clamp and bulb without charge. I have come across several examples of this sort of service and I speak as I find..
What is your experience with them RI that makes you have such a poor opinion of the company ?

Went into Quick Fit yesterday... I have a lease van... in my opinion my rear tyres are illegal as the outside edge is almost bald (they have done 20,000 miles ).
The fitter came out to have a look and said... '' Sorry mate, those tyres have a block tread and you can run them until only 2mm is left ... and your lease company wont change them until the braid is showing ... Do you want me to check your brake pads''
What a to$$er..!

I took my car to another big outfit because the brakes were soft. They inspected the brakes (without disassembling them) changed the pads and sent me on my way. I realised that there was no improvement and went back. They inspected the brakes again and stated that they could find no fault.
I went down the road to another firm. They inspected the brakes and said that they were OK.
I then went to KwikFit. They explained that the only way to find out what was wrong would be to strip the brakes down. The fee would be £20 but that would be deducted from any work which they did. I agreed to this and, after two mechanics worked on the car for quite some time, I was invited to take a look at the two leaking brake cylinders that they'd found. They offered to fix them for a very reasonable price, which they did very quickly (even though they had to get the parts delivered to them).
Two big companies were prepared to send me out onto the road with unsafe brakes. KwikFit weren't. So guess which firm I now trust?
;-)
