A friend told me she thinks her partner may be about to lose his driving licence because he was caught speeding twice in three weeks.  The second time he was doing about 130 m.p.h.   She thinks he got 3 points the first time, and either 6 or 9 the second time. I told her that if it adds up to 12 points he will lose his licence for a period of time, following which he will have to retake his driving test.  Can anybody tell me if this is correct?

If the total is 12 or more then he will in all probablility lose his license. However it is up to the magistrate to impose a re test, something they are increasingly doing as a punishment, but it is not certain. At the speed concerned It is likely that the magistrate will impose a ban just for this offence, ie regardless of the toting up procedure. If this helps I was once caught speeding at 122mph, I was fined �300, banned for 56 days and had, what was termed a "nominal" 6 points added. When I got my license back, the number of points next to the offence was 0, it seems that if you get a ban for the offence then the points are effectivley 0. I did not have to re take my test.

he deserves to loose his licence. Driving at this wreckless speed can only lead to trouble.

If you get a ban you cannot also get points.  It has to be one or the other.  At that speed it is more likely that a ban will be imposed.  30mph or more above the speed limit is generally when a ban comes in to play.

Anyone driving at 122 mph or 130 mph should be banned for life - nutters!!

Yep he's lost that one then! Not on points but over 100mph is an automatic ban

A friend of mine was caught doing nearly 130 on a bike and the ban was automatic, 1 year I think. He said the judge wanted to more than a ban. Maybe prison is an option, or probation?

I don't think he will have a fine they are now viewing this as lenient, like a friend of mine he will be ordered to retake both parts of his driving test again

In this neck of the woods 100mph = automatic ban.

He shouldn`t expect anything less.........and then he`ll have problems renewing his insurance.  Silly person.
