guys any ideas were the tdc sensor or crankshaft senor is on my wifes audi a3 1800 petrol r reg ....thanks lee

Cam sensor (TDC) not likely to fail .. will not stop engine running.
In head near cam bearing boss.
I presume this is to fix your cutting out issue?
Good guess if you checked spark .... and you didn't have one.

On my Renault the sensor is fitted on top of the clutch bell housing to pick up the tdc timing and lets the ecu when to fire the plugs.
The TDC sensor does not get "out" It can also stop the car starting up it can also drop the maximum revs of the engine
