cam belts

i have a clio 1.5 diesel 2002. just 10 days out of warrenty. cam belts gone.it has had a 18.000 and 36.000 service, mileage is now 44.000.when should a cam belt be change.

The cam belt on your car should only need replacing on or after 50k miles. it should also be checked at every service interval for damge or wear. as your car has only done 44k miles and it is only 10 days out of warranty, i think that you should firstly contact the supplying dealer to see if they will contribute towards the repair, or failing that contact reanault themselves and explain what has happened and ask them to make a contribution to the cost. i bet one of them will do something.

You have a valid complaint about the cambelt life expectancy.

All I can offer tho is "Good Luck" in finding an understanding dealership, I went through hell and back trying to get warranty work done on a new 5 Turbo way back in the early 90's, just because of the poor after sales I have sworn NEVER to by another Renault ever ever ever again! Peugot, however........ :-)
