Why do people buy brand new cars?

Apart from fleet managers and hire firms and other commercial reasons, why would a private indvidual buy a new car? Ok lottery winners and rich people accepted. I'm talking about your average joe. I mean look around the car park aywhere and 90% of them will be newish probably on tick, people effectively paying a second mortgage on something that will depreciate to zero. Madness absolute madness, can you imagine buying some shares that you know will fall to 0?

I always buy new cars because:

!) I get a better trade in deal with my old car than if I bought a second hand car.
2) I like to know that nobody else has driven it.......OK...stupid I know.
3) If I buy a new car, Mrs sqad gets a bouquet of flowers....OK even more stupid.

yes sqad, I'll take them 1 at time
1) they can afford to be generous when they know you are stumping up for a brand new car. The optimimum process is to emulate the dealer, ie sell you trade in privately and then buy your replacement at auction. Hall A t Blackbushe for example.
2) Not true, it will quite often have been driven at least to delivery. No doubt some sweaty oik at the factory will have driven it to the holding area. Your last new car, did it have 0 milage?
3) You can buy Mrs Sqad a field of Tulips wih he money you save.

I dont understand it either R1, although I knew someone who wanted a '10' plate car specifically, personally even if I had won the lottery I still would not buy a new car.

To some people cars are a status symbol that they can't afford so they in effect expensively 'rent' new cars but never actually own them

Makes them look good to family, friends and neighbours though huh?

To me a car is something to get me from A to B, as long as it looks tidy and is reliable I couldn't give a toss how old it is

I agree that new cars should be left to fleet buyers ... and WAGs.

I bought a car last year. It was 12 months old, and had 12,000 miles on the thingy.

I paid £23,000 LESS than the price 12 months earlier.
