Those things I've always wanted to try but value my car to much to attempt them....
What would (realistically) happen to my car if:
I rammed one of the automatic barriers at a car park exit?
I chucked the car into reverse on the motorway at 70mph?
I drove down a street with speed bumps at 60mph?
I parked 'bumper-to-bumper' with another car, then decided to shove it out of the way?
I jumped off a ramp and through the side of an artic trailer?
Also, if anyone else has any ideas of the things you fancy doing if you had the balls, the spare cars, and the immunity from prosecution; then chuck 'em below and we'll see if the motoring gods of AB can provide an answer

2) Most (if not all) gearboxes won't let you
3) Get a headache, posibly damage sump of engine
4) Depends how good a handbrake they've got and if your bumpers are at the same level
5) Assuming its empty, if its a curtainside not a lot unless you hit one of the centre poles. If its a box van or fridge(which have thicker walls), major body damage to truck, car and probably you!
Sophie...had this once on the M1. A guy in sports car thought he could get into the one open lane in front of my truck by driving at 70mph and cutting in front of me. He couldn't!!! He took out 150m of cones, 2 lane closure boards and a blue arrow. To say the front of his car was a mess is a bit of an understatement!!

I remember watching Tomorrw's World in the 70's when they were showing black rubber reinforced bumpers, that could cope with a 5mph impact.
MG then fitted them to some of their sports cars.
I think they failed because people didn't like the look of them, but they made such good sense.

When I was in my early 20s (mid 1980s) I worked in graphics full time but I got a part time job as a taxi driver four nights a week. We all did most things like that Bobjugs, although I would never dream of it now I've grown up! Most of the drivers were the same and the taxi firm didn't care - everything was on their insurance.
Passengers in the car were a nuisance. If it had gone quiet and it was winter I would take myself off to the middle of an empty car park, floor the pedal and spin the car so fast on the ice I would end up dizzy! We leapt hump-backed bridges at 40 to get the wheels off the ground and I still remember the jarring crunch as the cars came back to earth. In pre-camera days we broke every speed limit, especially when it was busy. I only slowed down after getting caught speeding twice but that was after losing police cars more than once. One night at 2am, I tried to take a sweeping A-road bend out in the countryside at 90mph. I lost the car which hit the kerb sideways, I leapt a fence without touching it and rolled to a stop in a field. Thank God for my seat belt! I still remember the noise and being thrown everyway against the belt. I had to clamber back over the fence in the dark and start walking. The first car that came along stopped and droped me at the taxi office where I couldn't explain how I'd lost the car or where it was! The police found it next day but it was completely wrecked, despite Mercs being built like tanks. They said I should have been dead and couldn't believe I didn't have a scratch.
One night, I was rolling down an estate road at 28mph just killing time. I had a young lad in a Mk1 VW GTi scream up behind me and try to pass, which he couldn't. He then settled so close on my bumper I couldn't see his grille. I could see him glaring at me like a demon and continually revving his throttle. Fool! I let him do that for a while, then I just stopped dead! The front of his car was wrecked - bonnet and wings

There was so much else. I eventually sobered up when I was chased and stopped at 3am one night doing 97.8 in a 60 limit, then 80 in a 40. I only got 3 points and a big fine but that made me grow up. I decided at that point to stick to every speed limit and road rule from then on - and I have. I haven't knowingly broken a speed limit or road rule since that night in 1986.
Years ago you could get away with an awful lot that you can't now. The taxi company didn't care about losing cars or having them damaged as their insurance company jumped within the hour and they always seemd to make money from incidents. They used to burn cars out they couldn't fix. I learned to drive then. We were occasionally given cars with the brake pedal on the floor and we would drive round town all night slowing down with the gears and anticipation! Sometime the clutch pedal was on the floor and we would snap gear changes all night by matching engine and road speeds with the accelerator. One car's steering was so vague it took a full turn each way to have an opposite effect on the wheels! We drove in every road condition from thick fog and ice to blizzards.
Those were the days. It was great for an unattached youngster who loved driving. Things have changed now. All the fun's gone from driving. Perhaps that's just as well.

I told the incandescant lad that a dog had run in front of me and I gave him the taxi company details before continuing on my way. Mercedes are like tanks and mine was unscratched so the taxi firm just laughed and the lad was left explaining a front-ended to his insurance company. Later that night I drove past and the wrecked VW was abandoned on the verge. Years later, I found out it happened outside my future wife's house and she remembers the wrecked VW outside her gate! Fancy trying to bully a taxi!
