traffic jam a2 autobahn near Hannover

There is a huge traffic jam on the a2 Autobahn e30 near Hannover, Germany. Does anyone know why.

My parents have been stuck for hours

Verkehrsdinfo.de is reporting an accident involving a truck between Bad Eilsen-Ost and Bad Eilsen, with the road closed for at least an hour.

having tried to translate some information from this website it seems there is a diversion in place but don't know for what reason; tried to look at the twitter posts as bibble suggested and it said something about a canister but wouldn't let me click anything to see the rest of the tweet so got nowhere near the full story!

That's what I was using pandora; silly but they didn't teach us anything traffic related in GCSE German! Also tried entering the website I mentioned into yahoo's babelfish but it didn't work!
