vauxhall vivaro stop/battery light
hello my friend has the battery light and stop light lit up on his vivaro van 54 plate dci for a few weeks now and he rang me yesterday saying he could smell burning he opened the bonnet and some smoke come out but he wasnt sure exactly where from altho the van drives great still,but hes rang me today saying the smoke is coming from the fan behind the radiator,i went down started the van up drove it round 15 mins then let it tick over in the street 20 mins and it seems the fans not working has it burnt out is that his problem has would this put those lights on the dash cheers????

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I would say there is a possibility that the relay OR fan could have caused the problem with an internal fault and short. The drain could well have put these lights on.
Disconnect the fan motor connection for now. That should temporarily fix. While the weather is not too hot, the fan is unlikely to be needed until he gets a repair.

toureman if the alternator had burnt out the smoke would have been coming from the alternator which it wasnt the alternator is no where near the fan and the smoke was definately coming from the fan motor and secondly if the alternator had burnt out the van would have been runing directly off the battery which would of then drained rapidly until it was dead which isnt the case as hes still driving the van around the last 3 days
