Okay, here's the thing, you may laugh but hey i don't care! i have a rover 214, i love driving it but i want to make it sound nicer without spending too much money, i have already taken the air filter out of it but it made very little difference. how would a performance air filter give the car a louder/nicer engine note? i have looked at loads of articles on the net saying that performance air filters give the car a bit more grunt but what i don't understand is how will a performance filter/induction kit be any louder than no filter at all? what do the filters have which induces more air? can anyone explain this to me please. TIA
well i know now that it wont make any difference to sound, but taking the air filter isn't really that big a deal, 4 people i know have taken their air filters out and had no problems.
"4 people i know have taken their air filters out and had no problems."
I think you should add the word "yet" to the end of that paragraph, as stated its not the wisest thing to do. Also if it is not that big a deal why would the motor manufacturers pay for and put it on in the first place. I am not being rude just trying to help here, but I would suggest you put it back straight away to save you paying out big bucks in the future.
Plus of course if you don't tell your insurers about any modification (and yes a performance air filter does count) then they will decline to pay any claims
