Car Washing In Winter

Do you bother to wash your car at this time of year? I had mine done a week ago and it's black already. Well, it was black to begin with but you know what I mean.

Nope, just keep the lights clean.

The dirt on the car doesn't matter. The salt from the roads does.
Wash off undercarriage with a hose regularly (the car's that is!)
Use a soft carwash brush and plenty of foamy water.

The salt and grit that collects on the car, particulalry underneath does the vehicle no good at all. Give it a good wash every week, two at most.
It very frustrating as the car will appear dirty a day later but it is important to wash it down regularly

I did the headlights, which kind of prompted the Q. They look so shiny compared to the rest of it.

I knew a man who, as soon as winter arrived, coated his car in a thick layer of wax polish and left it there. It looked terrible but when it was removed in the spring the car was immaculate. He also made a complete exhaust system out of copper piping which lasted for years.

I bought my car in February and I've not washed it yet (and I've no intention of doing so). I had my previous car for several years and never washed it either. I just can't see the point.

Ive never washed underneath my car during the winter, i dont wash it either as its pointless due to the cold when i can be inside where its warm,

maybe i should wash underneath the car then

I am suprised that you never wash your car. Aside from the legal aspect, whereby you could be fined for not clearly displaying reg plate or the headlights not being clearly visible, most people show a bit of pride in their cars, dont they?
The only exception I know of is a friend who lives and works on a farm and his 4x4's are working vehicles, mind you even he gives them a wash at least monthly...

I wouldn't usually but there was so much muck on it I was getting mud on the back of my trousers every time I stepped out of the car so took it to the car wash yesterday (no way I'm standing out there in the cold doing it myself!) and it does look very nice and shiney now!

Depending on the colour of your car to the condition of the paintwork, red can Oxidize & make the colour begin to go grey ( I valet in my spare time 30yrs +) I would myself recomend washing the car weekly, If the car has alloy wheels & you leave them the salt will ingrain on the alloy & makes it hard work & even destroys the look, but each one to his / her own, it only take 20mins to go through a car wash, if your car has cost you a few pounds, is it worth not washing it?

It's a black Golf and it's so hard to keep looking really clean. But as it is now being serviced tomorrow I will take it to the lovely indian men down the road who will do a quick in and out for a tenner. I would be embarrased for the guy to have to do anything with my car when it's this dirty.

I clean the lights and number plates at least once per week, when I check the oil, brake fluid, coolant and tyre pressures, along with all my lights. (I also maintain maximum visibility by cleaning both the inside and outside of the windscreen with vinegar). Those tasks are far more important than washing the body of the car but I know plenty of people who wash their cars regularly but who never check their lights or tyre pressures.
