I quite fancy an X-Type. Are they good/bad/avoid? Not too sure whether to take the petrol or diesel route, or even auto v. manual. All comments welcome as I really love the look of the car but would like to know how other people have found them.

We've got one (I think the pictures from google look the same), it's a petrol, automatic.

Although one person who we gave a lift, commented that it wasn't as comfortable as people had said, but I think it is.
dream dream dream dream etc..
Ive a 2L Manual XType diesel. Its the best car we've had -very comfy -nicely upholstered in leather and walnut and economical on fuel.Downside if you need anything caibrated (?) you have to go to a Jag dealer as they wont sell the machine to anyone but a dealer.
You wouldnt even know you were driving a diesel and its not a guzzler.Insurance and tax were far cheaper than the Vectra 2.5 Sport we traded in for it.
We'll keep this one to the end.
Owners love them -the Media don't
Bsically a Ford Mondeo - but , oddly, Jag not as rated for driving even though most have 4wd
Closest rival would be Rover 75 - very same car but much cheaper
Not as practical as Mondeo either - how did Jag get so badly lost in translation?
Only the v6 expensive one has 4 wheel drive!
I've got an Xtype auto, new in 2000, re-con gears last year £2k. I dont have regular services. Was told it was 4w ? T'was the rare running motor on highway crowded with other stalled vehicles, thru the heavy recent snows.

Staff with Audi Q, Porsche boxter, BMW saloon & Merc sport were all wheel spinning so I had to taxi them home. You wont regret your purchase - its more economical than the above cars according to the owners. Oh & the woofer is extra impetus :)
And mum wasn't happy as she thought it would be a gas guzzler and it's more economical than our old Nissan Primera.

Do you want mine? me and mum don't like it very much and if we have a cheaper, older car then my dad might put me on the insurance, so I can learn to drive. (in my dreams).

Attn: mollykins. What size engine is yours? Petrol or diesel? Manual or automatic transmission?
She already said.

Haven't the foggiest about the engine ( parents have gone shopping so I can't look) but . . . . there is something about the tax on the notice board, engine capacity/co2 is 244g/km, and the tax for six months is £233.75, if that's of any use.

BUT I don't think my dad wants to sell it yet. But if he pops his clogs soon, me and mum would be more than happy to sell it to you ( at a reasonable price).
I bought an 06 reg 3L Sovereign this time last year. Absolutely love it and it was great value at the time.

Tax is high (as Molly says), insurance is OK if you have a good history, fuel economy on a 3L Sovereign is pretty awful but if, like me, you don't do a lot of miles, it's well worth it ...

If you DO do a lot of miles then I understand the 2.2 diesel is the one to go for.
