Is it safe to use the battery from a 1.4 Clio in a 1.4 Rover? it is to see if the original battery in the rover is not working properly or to see if it is something else wrong with the car. i know i should be looking to see if voltages and amperages are the same etc. but i don't have the Clio here so can't check right now, providing they are the same, would this be viable?

Well the voltages will defiantly be the same :) and I can't see that the amp rating will be a lot different, if it's significantly lower though the rover may not turn over and it could overheat the battery trying, it can be higher without any problems.

Biggest problem is likely to be different connectors.

If the Rover battery really -is- faulty then there should be obvious symptoms like dim driving lights, engine won't turn over on the starter fast enough to 'catch' and so on.

Find someone who knows how to do a jump-lead assisted engine start and give that a try before you take the old battery out.

If the Clio battery is not physically attached to a Clio at the moment, compare all of the specifications on the label to the specs on the Rover battery before swapping them over. If volts and amps are identical, it should be okay. The "Ah" (Amp-hours) figure is more an indication of the maximum duration the battery will last at full power drain.

Near enough will do perfecly adequately.
So long as it can be connected properly and the engines are both similar size, with the recepient not being different (like a diesel) all will be fine mate.

Why not just use jump leads from the Clio to the Rover. Less hassle and no problems with losing the radio codes.

got the radio code for the renault saved in phone, don't need on for rover as aftermarket stereo fitted but thanx anyway, thanx for all answers. :-)
