My daughter's car has a squealing noise all the time she is driving It used to be just when she changed gear but now it's all the time. She says thet it has been happening for 2 years now(?)
She says it sounds like a belt slipping what could it be and is it serious?

Alternator drive belt is probably slipping - it just needs tightening.

Thank you Hopkirk - that's put her mind (and mine) at rest
If it's been slipping for two years, it will need replacing.
Many are Poly-V belts now. Cheap though.

Thanks allbags that's it before she goes home we are getting it done
It might need a full service if it,s not been near a garage for 2 years !
Have you had trouble starting the car? 2years? if the squeal has been happening for that length of time it would have effected the starting of the car ( Battery) Is it possible for you to take the belt off & try? check if there is any movement in the water pump.
