Why does my car radio go into seek mode on the way back from town at a certain point but on the outward journey, it doesn't? If I drove on the wrong side of the road on the way back would it stop it cutting out? Lol.

It's because it's lost the signal for whatever reason.. On an RDS system, if the radio loses the signal it may try to find the same programme broadcasting on another station. If it doesn't find it, it may settle for a different station, or, like yours, continue to seek.

Yes, but why only for 100 yards and why only on one side of the road? It puzzles me.

Could it be the Doppler effect changing the signal strength of the radio wave being broadcast.
You are probably heading towards the radio mast one direction, and away from it the other. It may only be a small amount of change, but it may trigger the re-scan??
