We will be travelling from either the A12 (Colchester) or M11 (Cambridge) area into London and want to park for a very long day and catch train/underground into central London and back again around midnight. I have no idea which stations have good parking - we have a 'high' vehicle and cannot fit under most barriers or multi storey car parks. Can anyone tell me where would be best to go please? and if possible the cost? many thanks.
we used a site similar to this one, http://www.freeparkingspace.co.uk/ and typed in a range of tube stations which were on our route to find the best parking spot.
check out http://www.freetopark.co.uk for free parking near tube stations. Text the word parking and the name of a tube station outside the congestion zone to get a text back by return telling you where you can park for free all day. Texts cost £1.50..not bad for all day parking!
Thanks so much for your answers. I think i may not have worded my question very well! I am more than happy to pay for secure parking i have no problem with that (i would rather pay than be worrying all day in case the car was not safe) what so ever. What i need to know is WHERE to catch the train where there is good parking available?
I've driven to London form East Anglia and used the Excel centre. Its just beyond London City Airport, well sign posted and safe. I don't remember any barriers, it was pay and display. The dockland light railway stops there and connects very easily tot he tube. We were going to a matinee in the centre of London and it was straighforward and trouble free.

When driving down the A12 I've often used Upminster Station. It's really easy to get to. (M25, clockwise, to 1st exit at Jn 29. A127 towards London. Then just follow the Upminster signs, which will take you to the station).
Upminster has 540 spaces, with a 2.10m (6'11") height limit, costing £7 per day. It's served both by London Underground (District Line) and by National Rail (c2c, into Fenchurch Street).
Thanks to you all. Buenchico our car is 2.1 high. We are travelling on a saturday in June. There is a story to this i booked tickets last summer for this function but my daughters baby is due 10 days later which was not expected at the time i booked. i have booked a hotel overnight but i need to be able to leave should she go into labour as i am going to be at the birth therefore i have cancelled hotel and need to make arrangements to park.
