I have just logged on and read of a motorist being given a £75 fine while he had gone to pay for his parking ticket. Could we please stop employing ex wheel clampers as traffic wardens.

There are some who take a pride in catching people trying to do the right thing. We park in a private car park, my colleague was clamped when she took her old permit back to swap it for the new one.
I belive there is a minimum period they must observe the parker so unless he came back 20 mins later I'd say the ticket he purchased would form ground for appeal.
I'd have thought Geezer was right; you can't just pay for your ticket by thought transference. I'd be appealing pronto.
10 mins either side of a timed free zone (free between certain hours) has been allowed in my local town.
The motorist clearly had not learned anything by the fine and parked illegally while paying it.

These recalcitrant idiots park in illegal areas such as the approaches to pedestrian crossings, endangering the lives of others, and then cry foul when fined. No sympathy. They deserve what they get.
beso, I read the post as meaning he had simply gone to get a parking ticket from a machine, rather than that he was paying a fine for a previous offence.
On the flip side of that. I parked in a car park which has a max one hour stay for 90p at lunch the other day. Myself and another guy were just parking up as the traffic warden showed up. The guy didn't have any change so the traffic warden waited while he ran to one of the shops to split a note. If he wanted to he could have just told him no. He did ask me if I could change his fiver which I couldn't but it wasn't until he ran off to the shop to get change that I felt a bit guilty that I hadn't just given him a quid.
