Blue lights on private cars
Are these legal? I'm referring to the small blue lights that are sometimes hidden in the radiator grill as well as those that are substituted for proper side lights and / or headlights. Yesterday evening I even saw a car with blue lights illuminating the number plate, making it difficult to read. Are these supposed to be "speed camera proof"?

Blue lights - The law states that only emergency vehicles can display blue lights so it is an offence if your vehicle has any LED or neon under-vehicle lighting system or lights on windscreen, washer jets or number plates emitting a blue light. The motorist could receive a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice and or be reported to court.

any lighting except standard fit are illegal, under car neons give points and fine (but can be fitted for show and off road use), can be fitted but not used on the road. people will fit them (myself included in my younger days) but i wired them into a switch so i could them on and off at will, even had the coppers baffled at 2 shiny odd looking bolts that they swore was flashing behind them (kept them on for a laugh). let me go anyway as they couldn't prove they flashed and couldnt take them out as they were locktite'd in...
