At a "Y" shaped entrance with space for two cars to pass each other on each leg of the "Y", is it correct if one is turning right, to take the right leg out of the drive instead of treating it like a roundabout?

In the absence of any signs I really don't think that 'correct'ness come into it. It's a matter of expedience.
I don't see why not. Unless there are signs to the contrary then it becomes 2 separate roads/drives does it not ?
I think on the busier junctions where it really matters, there will be road markings to dictate how to behave.

Out in the sticks where there are no markings, you may as well play 'spin the bottle'.

The real worry is where the road markings tell you how to use the junction, but the old dear in the Micra that is giving me a lift ignores them and gets it all wrong.

I declined future offers of lifts from her. Took up rattle snake juggling instead. It was safer.

Lol spikey. There doesn't seem to be a right or wrong way to tackle these sort of openings.
