You will only get a ticket if you get stopped for something other than the MOT and the police check your details. I know this for fact as last week it happened to me. I was stopped for doing 55 in a 50 limit. They let me off the speeding but found the MOT had expired, I got a £60 fixed penalty notice, no points and not a conviction so no extra insurance.
BUT if you get stopped again, and they will be on the lookout for you , and you are still driving without an MOT it is a court case , fine and points.

There is always a lot of ignorance about MOTs on here. I know for a FACT that ANPR cameras DO NOT check for MOTs .
Also no MOT, DOES NOT repeat NOT ! invalidate your insurance .
Getting stopped and checked will show that you have no MOT but only if the police check with the central data base , they only do this if they have stopped you for another reason.
No MOT is a fixed penalty notice only, £60 penalty (Not a Fine as there is no conviction) .
As I just said I got stopped and checked, my MOT had expired but I just got a £60 penalty , no points , no conviction. However the police did say that if I got stopped again and still had no MOT it was a court case .
Take it from me , I have been there done it and got the ticket. If you do not pay the £60 within 28 days then it becomes a fine with points !

Never any points for no MoT, Eddie. It is non-endorsable.
“you may also find your insurance is not valid as the car is not legal. “
“good point baza thats true “
No it is not true. This point has been raised many times on AB. Lack of MoT does not invalidate insurance. If it did every fixed penalty or prosecution for no MoT would be accompanied by one for (the far more serious) offence of No Insurance. And that does not happen.

Unfortunately,...

Specifically,No MOT -
Having a valid MOT is a mandatory condition of motor insurance. The moment you drive without an MOT, your policy is invalidated -- even if you don't have an accident until after getting the MOT. (Aside from insurance, it's now a legal requirement to have valid insurance at all times, even when not using the vehicle, unless you have filed a Statutory Off Road Notice.)

So no car under 3 years old can be insured then?? and you'd never be able to take a car for an MOT if it didn't have one because you could never be insured... that's simply not the case.
Every insurance certificate I've ever had states the car must be road worthy and has no mention of an MOT anywhere in it.
