Victims of crime are being "encouraged" to investigate offences themselves, an inspection of police forces in England and Wales has found.

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary said criminal damage and car crime were "on the verge of being decriminalised" because forces had "almost given up".

In some cases victims were asked to check for CCTV or fingerprints.

The Association of Chief Police Officers said austerity meant forces had to set priorities.


Brilliant! The first step down the road toward all out vigilantism. I've often said that if I caught a burglar on my property I'd be judge and jury, looks like it'll be legal for me in a few years!

A mate of mine had his iPhone stolen from the gym. Fortunately he could use the 'Find my iPhone' service on his computer and was able to inform the police where it was.

A week later, they had not nabbed the thief, and his phone was in Mali.

Perhaps it is a plot to privatise the police. Authorities seem to be trying to do that to other services.

Maybe some officers are disheartened when the see the leniency( x hours community service) handed down by the courts for offences that seem to deserve more than a slap on the wrist.

A recent report said that there are actually 50% more crimes committed than are shown on the statistics. This is because 'credit / debit card and other financial frauds are not being counted as crime. Makes you wonder what the police do actually do.

Why don't the Plods just get on with the job that they are paid to do, and stop bally moaning all the time. If they spent less time plotting and lying, perhaps they would be able to investigate crime properly !

Or perhaps if they could carry out their work instead of certain persons accusing them of lying and certain communities crying racist all the time, along with them demanding inquiries, perhaps it will be then that they can stop treading on egg shells, and get on with policing.

There you are. Eddie has just pointed out that police statistics only show about 50% of crimes reported. Was that not something I tried to put across to you earlier on another thread? Statistics and number crunching are rarely worth the paper they are printed on and are for the guidance of the naive. Statistics are like a drunk holding on to a lamp post. They offer support but are not very illuminating.

Eddie, I once had my identity stolen and my credit card account (with a credit max of £5000 went £35000 into the red. The police weren't interested as they said that the theft was from the credit card provider so it was up to them to report the 'crime'. Strangely enough the provider preferred trying to get the money from me rather than the criminal (it was an inside job anyway ).

AOG...perhaps if the Plods started behaving with some probity, instead of concocting evidence, lying and generally behaving in ways that are unbecoming of an Officer of the Law, they would have more time to solve crime, and in one stroke, bring back the trust that the public used to have in them.

They lied and plotted over Plebgate, as well as many others.

Another reason that some crime goes unreported might be because the Public have lost any faith in the Police to even begin to investigate, let alone find the culprits. This is evidenced by the link above...solve our own crimes now apparently !

I'm starting to wonder if the police wouldn't be better off disbanded. I wonder just what percentage of actual committed crimes are resolved? They seem to act more as a security force kettling protestors and driving up and down with sirens going, rather than one dedicated to solving crimes. And they are increasingly lawless and currupt.

If you are wondering why your burglary isn't being investigated, just have a look at what is going on in South Wales for the next couple of days. No sign of any shortage of Plods, or straightened budgets here it would seem.

And maybe the police are overstretched because of all the imported criminals they now have to take care of, along with all the indigenous criminals that they once had enough resources to take care of.

Yet another legacy handed down to us not only by the past Labour Governments immigration policy but also by our membership in the EU..
