My car will be 1 year old on May 1st. Its tax banding is zero and I have been to the Post Office to have the bit of paper stamped that was sent to me, and I won't get a tax disc. But should I leave the current one on the car after May 1st ?

No. No VEL needs to be displayed.

Why would you? you do not need to display a Disc anymore
Why have you still got one on display at all?

Not sure Hopkirk, but I thought I would leave it until it expired at least !

Off it comes then !
I took both ours out on the day they were abolished, but then felt nervous as everyone else still had theirs on display.
I think that all of us who still have a Tax Disc on the car should lovingly frame it behind glass as a reminder of yet another change in our motoring regulations. Who knows, in a few years time they cold be worth a fortune to a keen collector.

We might see them on Antiques Roadshow sometime in the future WR !
Too late. The last issues have been put on E-bay months ago.
I wonder if Ann has made a note of this thread?

Can't be bothered to take mine out. Even when they were needed the chances were I'd put the new one in over the old. It can stay there until the car is sold on or finally scrapped.
I had better stick notes inside our cars saying when the tax will run out, in case we don't get the reminder letters
The tax disc holder is good for displaying parking tickets!
