I would have thought if you were driving down country lanes with vision obstructed by hedges, bends that you would take you time & take the view of " What If" in your mind, there was something on last night about new drivers and this sort of driving, is it not normal common sense to drive cautiously, or do new driver not have this?

All new drivers nowadays are thick. Not like it was in our day ... we were the best new drivers.
I think most do.

Country lanes, imo, are more dangerous than motorways.

The test in my opinion is way out of date Berni instead of the theory there should be question of Hazards that you could come across on the likes of Country lanes, what would you do if your car developed a fault in the outside lane of a Motorway, or any lane if it comes to that.
I have noticed a tendency for people to be well over the centre line of the road on bends lately. V worrying. I could see one driver 'twitch' the wheel after which they were still over the line.
Oh listen, where I live there are loads of twisty roads, high hedges, blind bends with the added attraction that horses and ponies roam free. There are also tractors, horse riders, the odd herd of cows being moved, and free range chickens ranging a bit more freely than they should be. The worst offenders are holiday makers of all ages-actually mostly older people- who assume that because the roads are quiet, no one is using them but themselves. Most of them learn without ploughing into something. Bicycles are also available to rent which adds to the fun.
same here..windy country lanes..motorbikes the worst coming at you head on !
It's all the veg.
One would hope drivers would have sufficient care. But one can go over the top. I was passenger in a vehicle being driven to a country pub for a meal last weekend. I'm surprised we're not still approaching the first bend in the road.
To drive on rural lanes you have to assume that there's a stationary tractor just round the next bend - because one day there will be!
And cyclists are almost as bad as cars. The ones which use our narrow twisty lane do so at the same speed as some of the cars, but with their heads down pedalling for all they are worth. One of them is going to meet the boy racers who use the lane as a race track.
Tend to agree TWR...and to add a twist most are posted at national speed limits.
The big problem these days is that people are not taught to drive, they are taught how to pass a test - There is a big difference.
