Drink Driver, Fourth Offence.

On December the 9th, I mentioned in a post that a lady had gone rallycrossing in my front garden. Found out today that she has now been convicted of drink driving for the fourth time, banned for 6 years and must attend alcohol awareness course and resit an extended test. Fortunately she had surrendered her driving licence before the court case. She has apparently suffered quite some tragedy in her life recently and doesn't believe she will ever be fit to drive.

I feel more sympathy now I know more of her circumstances. Her husband came round the day after and agreed to cover the damage.

So sad. Good on her for surrendering her license. I have decided I shan't drive any more, but think I'll hang on to my license.

Whilst I am sorry to hear she has suffered some tragedy in her life (who hasn't?) being banned and surrendering her driving licence will not prevent her from getting behind the wheel of another car.

As for attending Alcohol Awareness courses, well, that's not really going to work unless she wants to give up the alcohol.

(I know I sound heartless, but seriously, I hope she will see a light at the end of her very dark tunnel)

Ummmm't don't know if you're refering to my "sympathy" or Baths "so sad" but we haven't condoned her behaviour.

If this is her fourth conviction she obviously hasn't learned a thing or just carried on regardless.

Driving whilst disqualified is a serious offence and often results in a custodial sentence.

Jackdaw, she wasn't banned at the time of this offence. She got her licence back a year ago and had not driven until that night. She was drunk and had discovered where her husband had hidden his car keys and wanted to visit her daughters grave, at midnight. Not thinking straight, obviously.

She's done the decent thing albeit late in the day - I hope she gets respite from her demons.

Surrendering your licence doesn't mean you can't reapply for one. The courts have guidelines that they follow. She apparently did come close to a custodial sentence.
