What On Earth Is Public Service Broadcasting?

I asked because people involved in it are exempt from staying in. How is in the public interest for journalists to go to a beach in exmouth or the lake district to film the fact there isn't anyone else about. How is that a public service? Is Saturday kitchen a public service? The one show?

Thought most BBC reporters are reporting from home, as were Saturday / Sunday kitchen today

Nah whenever I watch it they're on a beach or outside st thomases (why??? You can just as easily tell us someone's in hospital from a studio). The main presenter of Saturday kitchen or whatever it's called when it's in a Monday was in the studio

I questioned this even before the virus. I can't see why a reporter needs to be leaning against police tape trying to find a neighbour to talk to anout whatever tragedy has taken place.

yes, but that's y point - they are not essential (IMO) they are not a public service (are they??) they say you can go to work, but only if your work can't be done from home. Now clearly you can't film a beach from home (unless you live there) but why do you need to report from a beach? if you want to film an empty beach, use a drone. they dont seem to come under either "public service broadcasting" or "key worker"
