if you ask the garage and pay the 80 fee,the garage should do it for you,we do it quite a bit for our customers.

Thanks! Do you know how long this would delay me getting the car by? We dont live near the garage so would we have to make a few trips??
it usually takes a wek to 10 days.
You can ring the garage now, tell them you want to swap, go and see them to pay the cash, you can pick the car up with the normal plates on, you will be told by the DVLA when to swap the plates.
They'll tell you what documents they need as they will prob need the MOT for your car you're trading in. They then get the new MOT stamped and you need insurance for oyur new car - often insurance companies just state the reg so you could be OK with that ins cert as long as you've told them your changing your car - they should then issue you with a cover note for the new car.

As the other learned posts say - Let the garage do it - they are used to doing it and takes the stress out of oyur hands.
