To tax the car at Post Office you will need original Insurance certificate but you can buy it online with the policy number.
You can take the test in your new car if it is taxed, MOT'd and Insured (road worthy), my hubby just took his test in our car, you will need a mirror attached to the windscreen for the examiner.
If you have more questions can you ring your driving instructor? I am sure they can help.
Last answer is not strictly true. You won't be able to buy on line. This is only possible after the Insurance company has posted your policy deatils onto the MID (Motor Insurance Database) and usually takes 5 - 10 days. You will need to contact your insurance company to send you hard copy documents. Ask for special next day delivery which may cost 10
Sorry, just found another flaw in my answer herbie, the car needs to registered in your name before buying tax online as the tax disc is sent to the registered keeper.
and if you buy today,it will be dated from 1st july,so you will lose nearly a month of tax, they will not let you take a test in a untaxed car.as it is not road legal.
