My sister in law hit a gate stopper on a private road and removed her sump, oil everywhere. Car maybe stuffed. Is she covered on her fully comp insurance?
Yes. But check the policy. esure definitely cover for this sort of thing, and I can't find a policy that doesn't. A quote from esure website:
Claim for accidental damage where no other parties are involved
If you have Comprehensive cover, we will deal with the damage to your car immediately and will aim to make any other payments due to you under your policy cover within 5 working days after settlement has been agreed. The effect on your No Claim Discount is explained in your Policy Schedule.
I would have thought that if it were on a public highway then they may consider a claim...however as it was on a private road...they very probably wont......
yes they will. THis is what insurance is for. Get a quote for the damage from an independant garage. If this exceeds your excess you put it through as a claim, if not repair it without making a claim.
Norman, what planet are you on? I work for an insurance company - the term private road is essentially nonsense. You're comrehensively covered, and so long as there's nothing else to it, then yes you're covered for the sump damage.
However, if you drove the car and it suffered engine damage, then they probably won't cover this as it's termed drive-on damage.
