Unpaid Road Tax

If someone is driving a car without Road Tax does this invalidate their car insurance and MOT? What penalties could they face?
I was under the impression that the DVLA in Swansea picked up when a vehicle had not re-newed their Road Tax - is this true?

Vehicles now have to be continuously taxed or declared off-road. But lack of tax or off-road declaration does not invalidate insurance or MoT.

New judge is right but I would add in answer to the second part of your question, the DVLA do pick up if the road tax is not renewed. If you have not declared the vehicle as being off road before the road tax expiry date you get an automatic fine by the DVLA it used to be �80 but may be more now.

And if the insurance company have to pay out whilst you have no MOT they can and do sue the insured to recover the monies paid to third parties.
