Congestion charges

In our post today we received a congestion charge for one of our vans that was supposedly driving in Islington, London. We are a local authority so the van hardly ever goes outside of a 15-mile radius, let alone the county (Cornwall!) and if it did, the engineer was back in Cornwall 30 minutes after the fine was issued to carry out the jobs I phoned through to him!!

Do we just put this in writing to whoever issued the fine? There is also a low quality, black and white photo on the letter so does that mean the number plate has been copied?!

Yes - send all the evidence you have.

It does seem as if your plate has been cloned - can you tell if the van has your insignia and so on?

Could it possibly be your van, and your driver had lent it to a third party whilst doing jobs in his own vehicle?

If the photo is low quality as you say its possible the numberplate has been misread. This happened to a friend of mine when he got a speeding ticket through and it wasn't his car. He just wrote back and told them and heard no more about it,
