Grrr! :(

Hey all! So yea, I'm learning to drive at the mo, and took my car out for the first time yesterday with my partner (he has been driving 10 years now). Today I wanted to go to the shop when I got in from work, and he said I could drive there, it is literally a 1 minute drive! So I started reversing out of the parking space, and there was a car parked at 90 degrees to my car so Alan directed me out of the space, and I just reversed slghtly to far, and touched the kurb out the front of the neighbours house. Next thing I can see is her legging it towards the car (in the rear view mirror). Alan told me to go back into the space as there was now a car either side of me, waiting to go either way! And then I burst into tears because of the neighbour :( Really shook me up as I didnt even go onto her garden. Has taken me months to go out in my own car, and now I dont want to do it again :( Can I have a hug!? xx

When I told him he then went to the neighbours when we got in and she said she didnt realise it was us!
But its really put me off now and I'm still all shakey n tearful!

LOL - ya daftie - all you did was *kiss* the kerb.... see, you were introducing your car to the kerb, helping them to make friends... (that's what kerbs are for !)
Take no notice of your neighbour - everyone has to learn to drive once and it sounds like you are doing ok, come on lass, lots of people have trouble finding reverse ! When you pass your test, your confidence will soar and you can put your nose up the air at your neighbour because you will be zooming around everywhere !

{{{hug}}} You CAN do it. I drive now down the M25/M40/M42 without even thinking about it, which might sound wrong, however I was coming home from my parents this weekend and gave my daughter a right old heads up re motorway driving and etiquette, ie, don't hog the middle lane...be aware that your actions don't compact on another driver, etc (really boring and I got told to shut up and put on a CD instead!)...try again..If that neighbour comes out give her whatfor for parking inconsideratley.....
Yeah, one of those things. You'll be telling that neighbour to sod off and mind their own business in no time at all.
I've been driving nearly thirty years now, and I still make a few mistakes. We all do. When I do, though, and people go ape at me even though there's no damage done, I just kinda shrug my shoulders at them and say "yeah, yeah, done, sorry, no harm done this time, now get over it," and I drive off and let them stew in it. I know I'm no use to anyone on the road if I let myself get wound up over things, and sticking around to argue serves no good purpose either.
Quick tip for next time, get your bloke to reverse the car into the parking space (eg. a driveway or a car park space) and, when you get better, learn to do it yourself. It's actually easier reversing in than reversing out. I'm also told that shunting a car around with a cold engine uses more petrol, so it's supposed to be more economical too, as well as slightly safer. If nothing else, you can be really smug about driving straight off from the supermarket car park whilst the poor sap next to you is shunting back and forth trying not to damage anyone's paintwork.

I did do really well at getting out of the space! There are 3 spaces opposite my house, and we were parked in the end one along side 2 other cars, and the neighbours car was then parked at 90 degress to the back of my car, I got out with only inches between the side of my car and the bumper of their car! So even if i'm being modest, I did do that bit good!
Mirela, there is no chance at all I would drive my fellas car, its a 3litre twin turbo automatic lol!
