Time to recieve a NIP (Notice Prosecution) for a non-speeding offence

If you are caught on a speed camera, the law is obliged to submit a NIP within 14 days. Does the same legal requirement apply to a NIP which is based on a car parked without displaying road tax? I received same some six weeks after the date of the offence.

It's unusual to receive a NIP for no road tax - the registered keeper is liable after all and the purpose of the NIP in speeding offences is to allow the registered keeper to name the driver.

Is it a NIP and did it come from the police?

In answer to Ethel - I'm not sure if it is a 'NIP', as I have never received one of these for speeding. There is no title on the single page document received, but it DOES originate from the police. The document demands payment of a fixed penalty of �60, otherwise district court proceedings will be initiated.

If it were a NIP it would state 'notice of intended prosecution' in big letters across the top.

The NIP rules of 14 days does not apply and it has been delivered well within the time limit. I would pay the fine.
