I have commersial cover on my van.Am i able to drive any vehicle with tax & mot but no insurance & as long as the vehicle is in somebody else's name?

unless you have a policy that covers you to drive any car, like a trade policy then no.

even if you have drive any car on your policy, which isnt standard, the other car would have to be insured on its own as well.
You need to check your own policy, if it states you have third party cover to drive other vehicles not owned by you or not hired to you. It may also say that there has to be other insurance in force for that vehicle i.e. by the owner. You have to be the policy holder to use the third party cover.
It is NOT automatically the case that you will have third party to drive other vehicles even though your policy may be fully comprehensive.
