Business Insurance or Hire and reward
I'm a courier and have been told i need H&R insurance as normal business cover wont cut it even though my occupation is courier.
I have been told the policy would be void and i will be driving illegally.
I have searched the net and cant find any evidence that i need H&R by law I only need 3rd party cover.
Can anyone help or show me where its states the type of insurance i need by Law.
I understand that if I dont have the correct insurance then any comprehensive claim may not be paid out but if i'm only third party does that even matter
I have posted this over on the insurance forum

but someone said it might be best to pop in here.
I think to keep continuity though answers should go over on the other thread. Cheers
Thanks
Neil

This is because you are using your van to transport goods (even if they are only letters) for H+R, as oppossed to, say, a plumber, who is using his van to carry tools/materials to a place of work. To be honest, it shouldn't really make that much difference pricewise, but you need the correct small print to be covered. Try M E French at Preston(01772 752055), thats who I use for my truck.

Read "What is not covered?" and the sub heading "There are three common types".

Courier drivers are one of the highest categories when it comes to motor insurance. This is because a courier lives up to his reputation as a white van man and also the amount of miles he travels. It is usually double the amount of a non courier driver and is the reason why courier firms like them to be self employed.
The insurance does not cover the cost of stolen parcels but just to keep the van on the road. I knew someone who did this job working 18 hours/day and at the end was lucky to break even after expenses. You need a good accountant. Multiple drops are necessary as a single trip consumes time and money.
