What's the speed limit on a road, under NSL, not in a built up area (so we're talking 60 to 70mph), dual lane one side, single lane the other side?

70 if dual carriageway, otherwise 60mph.

This road is both dual and single lane at the same time.

It will be as the signage says. Not all dual carriageways are 70mph and some single lanes are 70mph.
I would be interested to see an example of a 70mph single carriageway road.

Just found that its not a dual carriageway, just a three lane single carriageway, so the limit is 60mph. (Think my definition of a dual carriageway was a little off).
Count - A lot of country lanes are 70mph and although I may technicaly be wrong to call them single carriage they do look like it.
I think you may have misunderstood the terms, Dave. There cannot be many country lanes with a dividing barrier separating the traffic in each direction.

A dual carriageway (on which the NSL is 70mph) has to have such a barrier. Roads without one, but which accommodate two way traffic not separated by a barrier are single carriageway roads and are subject to a 60mph limit when the NSL applies.

On many such roads (and indeed dual carriageways) lower speed limits often apply.
Thanks new judge, you saved me a job. I suggest you buy a copy of the highway code, Dave.
Why bye it . Have this one on me.

bye buy.
I think it is more a physical separation required, Judge, rather than an actual barrier.

A grassed area between the tarmaced areas would qualify it as a dual carriageway, I believe.
Yes, quite right, Hopkirk (hopefully not deceased!)
