Cannot access
5 Answers
I cannot access my Shared Documents Folder. Every time I try and click on it this warning shows .Documents is not accessible, Access is denied. I have also noticed that it is now called Documents and not Shared Documents. Is this a problem? Is there anyway I can get to the name Shared Documents folder? Do I need to connect the other computer to access this folder to make changes?

If you're on a network and the folder is on a server, someone could have changed access privilages. If you're on a single computer with multiple users, you may not be logged on correctly. Or it could be deleted, I don't have much info to work on. If you're clicking on a shortcut, and the actual folder is called was renamed Documents, then you might need to change the path of the shortcut. That's the most likely reason from the ones listed.
shared documents and documents are two seperate folders. also if the folder you are looking for is on the other computer the second computer needs to be turned on. you also need to make sure that folder is shared on the network. if you are on the computer that the folder originates from and cannot find it, do a search for shared documents.
Thank you for your replies. Could you expand your answer to the following (Peanut): Shared Documents and documents are two separate folders? I only have a folder called Documents at the moment and thats without connecting the computer together I get the fault. I did a search for shared documents to no avail. I am not on a network and haven't changed the access privileges. If it is deleted how do I restore it if it can be done? How do I change the path of the shortcut?
Cheers
how long have you had this problem? maybe a system restore will do the trick. my compyter has 2 documents folders, one is my documents and the other is shared documents. ok try this, click my computer, click on whatever your hard drive is (probably c), documents and settings, your name if its there then look for a folder called shared and see if thats the folder you are looking for. to be honest with you the only time ive seen the access is denied message is when i try to access the folder over a network (two computers connected together so you can share files). also i do not know how to change the path of a shortcut but i dont think you need to, that is just one of the possibilities the error gives you to fix the problem. with that said, i will not waste anymore of your time i would really have to see what it is you are experiencing. I would just try a system restore to a date before you had this problem. if that doesnt work you can always undo that restore. sorry i couldnt be more help to you.
