can someone please help settle an argument.....a person we work with has been driving around for about 3 years with no insurance tax or MOT ( yes we too are flabberghasted that she has never been stopped!) the reason being that she moved house about 2 years ago and never let the dvla know of her change of address so any fines or correspondance would have gone to her old address. Apart from the fact that we are all disgusted with this person and have told her.. one or two of us have rang the poilce and the dvla and given her new address but nothing has ever been done!

My argument is that she could now be disqualified from driving without knowing because the court summons (which she would not have attended) and the following disqualification notification would have gone to her old address.. my colleague argues that she would have to appear in court first to be disqualified is this true?

new rules have come in and she could well be on her way to being disqualified!

DVLA Notice

Section 99 Revocations
This is to inform you of changes to DVLA procedures when dealing with drivers who have failed to surrender their licences to the court or DVLA to have penalty points endorsed on their licence.

Revocation of driving...

i was not inferring i was being accused of anything... and i said everything i just said in the last message earlier on in the initial post....
Apart from the fact that you were looking at the out of date tax disc rather than just implying that she claimed it was out-of-date. A big difference.

One is hearsay and the other is evidence (inasmuch as it can be on here).

like you pinklady i pay my car insurance tax and mot every year, and at a great expense and i am angered with someone who has no regard for anything or anyone other than themselves and who even though has been reported several times seems to be forever getting away with it.... to top it all my initial question was could she be disqualified without knowing it because she may be getting the company car for two weeks?
Again, let the company verify that she has no endorsements on her licence.
re the tax etc, id call the local station again about it

as for the company car, i would ask the company insurers to double check hr status by contacting the DVLA. something they should be able to do easily.
Ring the police and tell them she was drinking at lunch time and is about to drive home, that'll get them to come and stop her, then they will discover what she has and hasn't got in terms of tax, insurance and MOT

To be able to drive a company car\ she will have to produce a valid clean driving license and probably her own insurance policy anyway.
A valid license at the very least...
if you really want to know if she's insured go to askmid.com and go into the own vehicle section and enter the cars reg plate and it'll tell you if its insured or not!
plus she would have to be registered with a company like permittodrive to have access to a company vehicle, and you can't do that if you aren't properly insured,
i drive company cars and have never heard of permittodrive
Is that a new rule Dot? We use to have company cars and the only thing the employees had to produce was their license.
"plus she would have to be registered with a company like permittodrive to have access to a company vehicle"

What?

I have had company cars several times and a lot of my friends drive company cars and neither myself or my friends have ever had to sign up with any external company.

I think you are confusing the company policy of one company with the law.
we have to give the company permission to check our licenses with the DVLA but thats about it
If you ring DVLA and tell them she has no tax, you must also tell them where the car is parked: eg outside work through the day, or outside her house at night. It must be parked on a road, not on a drive or in a private car park.
They should then come out and clamp it within 3 days.
She will then have to tax it within 24 hrs (which she can't do without an MOT or insurance) so then they will come & tow it away.
I know this is what happens because it happened very recently to my moronic next door neighbour....and yes it was me that grassed him up.
