Hillsborough Slur Civil Servant Sacked
// A civil servant in Liverpool has been fired for using government computers to post abuse about the Hillsborough disaster on the Wikipedia website following an investigation by The Telegraph.
The offender, who is from London but lives in Liverpool with his fiancée, was found after changes to the online encyclopedia were linked to his social media activity and employment history.
"He has been sacked, and we all took the decision not to name him because social media can be very unpleasant. //

I am a bit torn on this, is it right to keep his identity secret, or should they have thrown him to the wolves?

It always amazes me that these trolls are too stupid to be able to post their bile without getting caught! if you are going to use computers/internet like this first learn how to do it!
Anyway to answer the question, no he should not be thrown to the wolves but no doubt his identity will be leaked anyway so I guess it's irrelevant. What a plonker!

Just a stupid oaf, not really deserving of being publicly flogged. He's been sacked which will have mucked his finances up, his home life up and he'll find it awkward to get another job. If he's financially overcommitted for any reason, that will cause him abject misery. I think he's a prat, but he's probably suffering enough for what were really just thoughtless, tasteless remarks.

I appreciate that I am a generation too early to embrace social media, but i utterly fail to understand the concepts of 'throwing someone to the wolves' and even cyber-bullying, because it seems to me that a simple solution is not to look at unpleasant messages.
If I perceived i was being bullied by someone online, I would simply not look at any social media messages until the activity subsided, which bullying always does if it fails to elicit a reaction.
The minute you aver your eyes, or change pages, the power of the cyber bully is elmininated, so why on earth are young people driven to the point of suiicide, and indeed beyond?
Is social media such an integral part of life that people cannot simply walk away from it?
If I am being obtuse here, i am open to correction, but the solution to cyber bullying seems imediate and simple - don't look!
