Didnt know where to post this but thought CB as good a place as any.
At the start of this month I rang NPower to set up a DD payment plan.
I agreed to pay £76 a month which would go down to £54 a month after a year (the difference between the 2 amounts is to pay of my last bill).
I then get a confirmation letter stating that Ive agreed to pay £86 per month going down to £64 after a year. I rang them to ask why they were charging me diferent than I agreed and it again put back to the original quote
I then get another letter saying that they were going to take £90 per month DD. Back on the phone it was put back to £76
I get another letter telling me that Id agreed to pay £96 per month. Back on the phone and the guy I spoke to AGAIN reduced it to £76 AND filled a complaint form. Ive now had an email informing me that I'd agreed to pay£102 per month.
Can anyone help me sort this mess? I just want to pay my bills but dont know what the hell is going on with NPower quoting me one thing and then continually billing me for more each time.
Got to go out now but will pick up any replies later.
Thanks guys.
They did that to me for a while- but there is little point paying less as you only end up with a higher bill at the end. Ask whether you are on the lowest tariff and email them. I did and they gave me £60 back and halved the bill.
I had the same problem nailit, but with EDF. I was over £100 in credit when they decided instead of £34/month I should pay £125/month. And the more I complained, the higher it went, even though like you, the chap on the phone said he had reduced the figure to the original amount. As I was at the end of my contract I moved after 6 or more months of arguing with them as that seemed the only way to solve it.
This is why I prefer to pay for what I actually use, by DD. I know my bills are going to be higher in the winter months but, very manageable during the summer months.
Work out how much you have used over a year or two and at least you have an idea what the figure should be.
I thought that Scottish Power were incompetent but Npower is worse by the looks of it. Isn't it meant to be the clean energy source for the future - Nuclear energy.
I did that Ivor, made no difference. Not sure but I think there is/was a glitch in the system somewhere and the system kept overriding the manual figures put in by the customer services staff. I'd just had enough in the end and move to another supplier.
If he wants to change suppliers Nailit would need to pay off all the outstanding balance in one go. It seems npower have set the DD at a level to cover some arrears so Nailit may not be in a strong negotiating positionI know these organisations can be very frustrating but it's better to pay what's requested for a bit then once the account is straighter Nailit could ask for the amount to be reviewed. Also, if he queries it again now and post[pones teh start date by querying it the balance and required payments will just go up again- so it's better to pay the requested amount now in my opinion.
That's fine if you can read your meters easily. My gas meter is way below ground level in my back garden and I can't read it. I moved suppliers when they started asking for monthly readings. Roll on smart meters for me.
I used to be with e.on and have a smart meter supplied by them. When I switched to first utility I found out that they could not read my meter. However my display unit still shows my meter readings so it's easy to send the figures without going out in the cold to look at my meters.
Many thanks for all replies.
I just don't understand how they can legally quote you a figure and then try and bill you for more and even then keep putting it up. Its gone from £76 p/m to £102 p/m in a couple of weeks.
Think Im going to cancel DD, try clear my previous bill and pay quarterly after that.
Thanks chia for link, was beginning to get paranoid about it.
Hopkirk, am going to cancell DD later today, clear outstanding bill and change company.
Thanks for replies.
