I'm looking for a song by Elton John, it's an instrumental piece. It's quite hard to find since there are no lyrics but does anyone no the titles of any instrumental pieces by him - i think its quite a famous song?

Not quite true that there are 'no lyrics': "Life isn't everything, isn't everything" repeats to the end (I think!).

It was written as a tribute to the bike messenger for Rocket Records, Elton's label in the '70's, who crashed and was killed, i think he was about seventeen.

The lyrics is open to interperetation -

"Life isn't everything ... isn't everything ..."

or

"Isn't everything ..life ... isn;t everything .. life?"

I think his full name was Guy Birkett or Birchett.

'Song for Guy' was a tribute to a Rocket Records motorcycle messenger, Guy Burchett, who was killed in a road accident. It was on Elton John's 1979 'A Single Man' album, and reached number four in the UK in 1980. It wasn't released in the US, because there was already another artist with an instrumental in the charts at the time, and the Record Company thought it might be overkill to have two.
