A previous question made me think of this 7 down the list to be precise. In your opion whats the best movie soundtrack mines Highlander although it was not officially named a soundtrack, I dont think. Its called A Kind Of Magic which featured all the songs from the film, closely followed by The Lost Boys. A matter of opion again I know , but whats your favourite of all.

My immediate response is the soundtrack for Pulp Fiction. The music is so frenetic, as is the film. I could watch that film over & over (infact, me and him indoors do!). I also like the Austin Powers soundtrack just because it's mad! This is the sort of question that's get's me thinking about all my favourite films.... I feel another question forming...!
My Best Friends Wedding - bit girlie though - suits me!
The childrens version of Bugsy Malone, gets me every time.
I prefer soundtracks composed for the film, rather than collections of songs slotted into the movie (though I do own "Pulp Fiction"). Too many to choose from, but my favourites include: Basil Poledouris - Conan and Starship Troopers, Randy Edelman - Dragonheart, Howard Shore's work for The Lord of the Rings, Andrew Powell - Ladyhawke, James Horner - Braveheart.
I think you'll find (as per LeMarchand) that the Highlander songs fit into the "collections of songs slotted into a movie" list as they all came from the previously written Album "A kind of Magic" by the gods of rock "Queen". My favourite (which goes under this category) is the Martix compilation, but in answer to your question then it would have to be the Bond movie soundtracks where the songs were written specifically for the movies.
Martix? what am i on? Matrix
There are numerous films with the soundtracks written by Danny Elfman in a range of styles (like 'Weird Science' to 'classical' pieces. The first time I saw his name in the credits, I couldn't believe it could be the same Danny Elfman who was lead singer of 'Oingo Boingo' (American punky band - 'Ain't this the life' is great) I was really into in the eighties, but it is. If you heard the O.B. stuff and what he now composes, you would see what I mean.
Forrest Gump has too many classics to mention.
"John Carpenter's Christine" "200 Cigarettes" "Reservoir Dogs" "American Grafitti" "The Crow"
Christine... what a brilliant film, one of S.S. best I think. Wish my car could fix itself that easily - mines still in the garage!
Actually i've changed my mind - "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" (this IS a soundtrack as Ennio Morricone wrote the score specifically for the movie)

darth vader isn't he the same guy who wrote the music for once upon a time in america.
manutdstott: In case Darth is too busy planning galactic domination to get back here, yes. He also did the music for "Once Upon A Time In The West", "The Mission" and wrote "Chi Mai" (used in the Lloyd George series and elsewhere). If you are interested, "The Film Music of Ennio Morricone" (VI863032) is a good buy - you can pick it up online for around 6, and it contains tracks from his most well-known scores.
no particular order.... Last of the Mohicans 1492 - Conquest of paradise Bladerunner ....and most of John Barry's work.
