I find this piece achingly beautiful. Why isn't Elgar more respected within the classical world

I am not familiar with this piece of music. My favourite one of Elgars is Variation number 9 (Nimrod) taken from Enigma Variations. It is beautiful.

Well I have always thought that Nimrod should be used on the Radio instead of the two minutes silence on Rememberence Sunday. You should listen to the Cello Concerto it is beautiful and I would recommend the version with Jacqueline Du Pre as the soloist
Elgar is the greatest British composer of all time to my mind. I think he is fairly well respected in the classical world. He may be some way behind the giants like Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mozart, but there's certainly no shortage of recordings of his work, particularly in the UK.

Anyway, keep your eyes and ears open for some stuff on Elgar over the next few months (hopefully) - it's his 150th birthday on 2nd June, so I would expect Radio 3, Classic FM and major classical music record labels to be marking this in some way (it would be pretty inexcusable if they don't).
Thanks for the heads up! :D

I just cannot listen to Beethoven or Wagner as this music was played to inmates as they entered the 'showers' in the concentration camps.
