Amy Winehouse
No doubt this has already been discussed somewhere on here, just can't be bothered to search every page but I want to know why the hell everyone is praising her appearance at Glastonbury as heroic and outstanding, etc. I am the only person who thinks it was absolute tripe. She sounded terrible, couldn't keep in time with the music, seemed to spend half of the performance trying to chew her own face, forgot the words to her own songs and looked like she hasn't had a wash for a good year - although that's nothing new. Why do people continue to idolise her when she spouts out this crap. Are all the papers and journalists too afraid to say it was utter crap or something?

There are far more talented female singers about than her anyway, who get on with performing and not just seeking the limelight like this over-rated waste of space.
I agree 100% with everything you have said, milly.

Well I have to admit to liking some of her stuff (on CD) if I don't actually have to look at her. I thought her performance at Glasto was absolutely dreadful (and agree with all you say about it Milly) and she looked horrendous - a blue glittery dress on a dirty looking scarecrow doesn't look good to me! I think she is an absolute disgrace!
I really like her. I found her an odd choice to "headline" the Nelson Mandela bash as she's hardly a great advocate for peace, but I enjoyed her appearance there and at Glastonbury nonetheless. I can only assume that Amy Winehouse is a love or hate figure; she is not the first and certainly will not be the last artist who is addicted to something. I do think that her addiction adds to her story if you like, how many "greats" would not have been greats if they didn't have some form of tragedy connected to their lives?
I don't think it's fair to slate her for being a bad role model; who says she has to be a role model to anyone? I doubt that when she signed that first recording contract she was interested in becoming a role model for anyone, she probably just wanted to write music and sing.
I'm sure when she is ready she will get clean and her career will take off again, or she will take a fatal overdose and, rightly or wrongly, become an even bigger star.

But allegedly she is an in (or is it out?? LOL) patient at the moment and was only leaving hospital to perform and then return immediately to the clinic, so perhaps her parents were proud of her in that she was able to even stand up and sing at any standard than be sat at home in a flat surrounded by crack pipes?
That was my point Elvis, I'm not arguing the standard of her performance, merely that surely it is better that she is making some attempt at salvaging her career and battling an addiction than sitting around getting further addicted?
I live on an estate riddled with crack addicts, I can't say that many (if any) of them would blame the likes of Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty for their addictions.

Being an 'oldie' Amy's voice has always seemed to be a poorer version of:

who in my opinion was far more talented and is still singing well (if not better) I hate to say it but I get very depressed nowadays about people like Amy getting so much publicity. She is not outstanding.

Crikey, go for lunch and come back to 18 answers. :o)
Another thought that occured to me is that it is clear nobody actually cares about her. Her father frequently has his mug in the press bleating on about it poor Amy but what is he doing to help her. She is clearly making someone a lot of money, no matter what cost to her. Were that me, my Dad would have (regarldess of my age) dragged me in by my hair and not let me see the light of day until I was 100% sorted. I don't particularly feel sorry for her but she obviously needs help and the people that are supposed to offer that are only interested in what they can get out of her. Very very sad.
Oh and lets not all forget the punching someone mid-song. What she gets away with is disgusting.

Dont get me wrong I love Amy Winehouse music but have to agree with you on her appearance at Glastonbury, could'nt understand while she was singing, forgetting her words and looked like she was away with the fairies. Stepping down to the front, to me look like she was asking for trouble, did you see the look of horror on the security guards faces lol. How on earth did her Beehive manage to stay put. And loftylottie you are right, I have also thought of her as a second to Helen Shapiro, now that was a voice.
