The Beijing Olympics closing ceremony

Well what can I say? I have just finished watching the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, perfection, perfection, in everyway. That is of course, all but for the London takeover debacle.

If that was a true representation of London, then we have slipped further into the abyss than I imagined. It illustrated, how badly dressed we have become, Litter Louts, graffiti artists etc, etc.

And what about the musical content, a ex X factor winner, and some ageing rock star, twanging on his guitar. And the spectacle of some Blue Peter winner, walking all over us to board the bus, was significant to say the least.

To top this all so embarrassing spectacle off, we saw an over the hill soccer star, feebly kick a ball a few hundred yards, it should have reached the stadium seating area.

Thank goodness the Chinese managed to wipe this embarrassment from my mind, by producing a brilliant finale performed by Placido Domingo and a Chinese Opera singer wearing a beautiful gown, They were backed by a Chinese girl's choir, also impeccably dressed.

Last week on TV Adrian Chiles asked for suggestions on the opening ceremony for 2012. The best reply?
Amy Winehouse tottering over to the torch and lights it by tossing in her fag end! Priceless.

yes, and lighting it with a match from Aldi, stokemaveric. The British hatred of spending money bemuses me, but I suppose a cut-price Olympics managed by one of those companies that lose all our computer data on a regular basis, or perhaps the ones who brought in Wembley a year late (yes, it's the 2013 Olympics!), will at least show the world the true modern Britain.

You criticise the Olympics in one breadth , and then in another pretend to care about the closing ceremony .

No , our bit was not brilliant � I and many other�s I�m sure , didn�t expect it to be.
Why should we have spent shed loads of money for , an 8 minute slot tagged unto what afterall , was the Chinese event .

London�s time will come in 2012 , when they will have the opportunity to show what they can do .
Save your criticism and vitriol for 2012 � i�m sure your spring will be fully coiled by then .

Incidentally , why do people think that London should attempt to upstage China � since when did the opening and closing ceremonies become an Olympic sport ?

I cringed for Britain when I saw Boris Johnson ,he was the epitome of sleaze .He couldn't even be bothered to wear a decent suit which he could fasten .Everyone else had made the utmost attempt to look dignified and he looked and acted like a yob .No-one expected Britain to cap China's effort but this was pathetic .I was ashamed for him.

Where have I run down this country? On the contrary, if you read some of my posts I am very patriotic to my country.

What I admit to doing, and that is despairing at the way this country is losing it's once proud heritage.

Granted we have had a successful Olympics, and those that are interested should be celebrating the fact.. But that has nothing to do with my question, which was about the way London was portrayed in the closing ceremony.

So please don't you dare suggest that I leave this country, just because I make a criticism, after all I do believe this is still a country of free speach.

The success of the Olympics shouldn't be judged on the opening and closing ceremonies.

The preoccupation with what kind of show we'll put on is bemusing. It seems we either go for an air-brushed, tub-thumping PR exercise (like China did) or we show our true selves and have to put up with people complaining that it wasn't traditional enough.

Besides do we really want the orgy of fireworks, a child releasing a dove before singing a song about hope and peace, followed by an extravaganza of dancers? It's all a bit weird. Ceremonies like this have a rulebook all of their own.
