Everytime I'm asked this I think my list is totally different. If we can only have UK singles I'll have a go with the following:

Love Affair- Rainbow Valley
Stone Roses- Made of Stone
Naughtyboy Wiz Kalifa- Think About It
The Jam- That's Entertainment
Sex Pistols- Pretty Vacant
Oasis- Don't Look Back in Anger
JayZ- December 4th
Mott the Hoople- All the Young Dudes
Dean Parrish- I'm on My Way
Carpenters- Goodbye to Love

Thanks / Diolch ... Good job we're all different, but must admit Love Affair and Rainbow Valley, came very close for me. And my Wife is/was an Oasis fan.
I've just remembered 10 others, such as Timi Yuro- Hurt.
There's just so much brilliant music- even some current chart stuff- I'd struggle to narrow a list down to a top 1000
I don't think that I could narrow it down to just ten.
