Media Player For Laptop

I am using my daughter's laptop while I am abroad.

I have had to uninstall the media player on the laptop, it was corrupted, and won't play anything.

How can I download a decent free dvd player that won't ask me to sign up for loads of stuff I don't want - I just want to be able to watch my Mentalist box set - that's not too much to ask!!
