I have a number of old vinyl records, which were given to me about 10 years ago by someone in the music industry. Several of them have "promo only - not for resale" printed on them. Would it be illegal to sell these on e-bay?

as far as im aware its ok,i have purchased many promo albums and singles from shops and market stalls,i cant see what the difference will be,mind you i dont work in the law industry lol
If any are of Lonnie Donegan or the Skiffle genre, post here first, then i'll check ebay.
It is technically illgeal - but the rules are flouted so much as to be meaningless, so don't worry about it.At one time, an embargo was placed on Radio One Dj's selling their free and promo albums and singles - it was getting embarassing, they were coining thousnads a week. The pwers that be said they had to donate their ill-gotten gains to charridee! yeah, right!
Its definitely not illegal to sell them.Obviously record companies don't want dj's or whoever they were originally given to selling them before a record is officially released as it might affect sales or could be bootlegged or whatever. You've nothing to worry about
