When i burnt a film onto my DVD-R disc, when i played it on my DVD Player it was in Widescreen. Can i change this setting?

Yes,
most modern TV sets will have a button on the remote to switch between 16:9 (widescreen) and 4:3. If your tv is an older model without this feature then your DVD machine should have a setup menu where you can choose the aspect ratio setting.
