Nobody else seems to have heard of this song but I used to have it played to me as a kid. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a copy? I think it was done by Simon and Garfunkel but I might be wrong.

Could this be from Ralph McTell's "The Complete Alphabet Zoo" album ?

Question Author

of course! It was ralph mctell not simon and bloomin garfunkel! Thanks for that, I think that is the right CD but I cant find the tracklisting on amazon.

We loved Kenny the Kangaroo when we were kids! Trying to get all these kind of songs for my neices and nephews, Im sure they will love them as much as I did.

Oh my God we used to sing this at School!

Holly the hedgehog, Holly the Hedgehog

Nobody wants to dance with her

She has prickles, how they tickle

I can't rememeber the rest.......

Question Author
it's funny because I cant remember any of the words after that bit either. Although I did think it was sleep with her rather then dance. Hhhhmmm, duno what sick version my parents were playing :-)
.....all the other animals, they have fur !!
Question Author
whats the rest, whats the rest!?!?!?!?!?! I have it in my head now but its annoying me as I only know one verse.

ok, ive got that cd - it goes something like this:

holly the hh

holly the hh

nobody wants to sleep with her

shes got prickle

scratches and she tickles

all the other animals, theyve got fur

went to stay with rabbit, but she couldnt stand it

"wake up holly this will not do"

you tickle and you brush me

something somethin squash me

somebody else must sleep with you

went to stay with doormouse, couldnt stay at her house

etc etc in a similar vein, untill at the end she goes and sleeps with the brooms and rakes "wrapped in a pound note, like a paper overcoat"

funnily enough the brooms dont complain!

btw, i got the cd from ralph mactells website (about 3 years ago)

Holly the Hedgehog was originally 'nobody wants to sleep with her' but was changed when the songbook was published to 'nobody wants to dance with her'. Both my children now 36 and 35yrs. old remember it as 'dance' but can't remember all the words except that she gets to dance with a tortoise or turtle in the end.
