Yes, I think you're right Andy. I remember when they were "manufactured". I always thought they represented the lighter, fun side of Pop music amongst all the political/hippy things that were going at the time. They were much derided for that, but it was essential "kids" Pop of the time.
He was the most instantly likeable of the band ( and the best jockey). Racing's loss was music's gain. Yes, they were manufactured but, for all that, they did have a couple of good hit recordings.
First 45' I ever bought 'I'm a Believer' by the Monkees. Still have 3 Monkees Annuals-won't get rid part of memory bank. Remember my Mum embroidered their names on my jumper! Happy Days.
