GBH charge on woman for punching her and breaking jaw
hi there my partner of 3 yrs recently punched me and broke my jaw although the outcome of his punch is very serious I never actually realised the brutality of his actions he has never hurt me in the past and is currently under going therapy as his mind state has been very iffy for around 5 months after a build up of events when he was younger his dad had a heart attack in which he witnessed he tried to save his dad but didn't know what to do and he ended up dying in his arms this has had dramatic effects on him and his character last year I fell pregnant and decided to terminate the pregnancy this is not something he wanted but due to me having 2 children from a past relationship with needs I was scared to have another child, this too had its own effects then in oct the same year his closest friend got killed and this is when I noticed he wasn't coping to well he started drinking a lot depending on cannabis as a way to cloud his thoughts he began to argue with me more and get angry over the silliest things I told him he needed help as i could see he was falling off the radar and his mental state was breaking down, he himself acknowledged this and asked me if he could leave and seek the help he needed if we could still be together whilst he was doing this but at a distance as he was not feeling stable, I on the other did not want this as I did not want the distance and I was scared what he would do in terms of other women etc if we was apart, so he stayed and began to get help whilst he was with me 2 weeks into getting help we had an arguement and he just snapped and ended up punching me in my face the effects of this were dramatic but the punch itself did not feel intense my jaw broke and I was in shock this was the outcome as I never even felt the punch I wondered if my jaw was just weak or if he had really hit me that hard...
He was in shock and he began to cry at what he had done he called the ambulance and told them he then took me to the hospital and told the doctors he was distressed and the doctors never even called the police or anything they said I was fine and would heal and that i should go home and rest I then went to see a dentist just to check I had no loose teeth etc and it was the dentist who told me that I actually had a fracture and needed to go to the hospital but I never felt pain like I had a fracture he was more distraught at this point and asked me if he should give himself into the police but I said no...
I was not traumatised or even scared of him at this point I just realised he was a bigger wreck then what i had origenally thought when i came out of hospital I grew angry with him more due to the fact I couldn't eat proper food and that he was fine then the fact of being in pain as this was never the case. I called the police on him and reported him they told me he was looking at GBH section 18 either community service or up to 3 yrs, we were still in contact and I told him the hospital had told the police and I had given a statement which was only a half truth he then went and handed himself in the police then started adding charges telling him things that i never even said such as he tried to stuff a jumper down my throat after hitting me they also told him it was me who reported him so he felt confused as when he offered to hand himself in I said no... He got a solicitor who advised him to say no comment as the police said to him he was looking at 7 - 10yrs I never wanted this type of sentence for him as it seems so dramatic I still love him but I know what he done was very wrong at the same time so some sort of justice needs to be served but I also know i could of maybe supported him more during his breakdown and let him leave to protect both of us..
I dont know what to do as I am now worried if I press charges could I sleep at night with him serving this huge sentence from 1 punch that turnt really bad.
What can come of this situation and realisticly what would he be looking at as a sentence?

The matter is out of your hands.
The Police will send the matter to the CPS and they will decide to prosecute him, or not.

Someone close to me was in a similar situation. She was punched in the mouth, resulting in the loss of her top front tooth. Not a pleasant thing for a pretty young woman. She ended up feeling sorry for him because he was 'so upset' and she even felt it was her own fault he had got to that state.
Long story; suffice to say it got much worse. Each time, she felt it was her fault. She - and her entire family - went through Hell. Thank God, eventually she saw sense and left him. The police prosecuted him and sent him to prison for 3 months.
Don't feel sorry for this man. You owe it to yourself and, more importantly, your children, to leave him.
